German spellchecking in NeoOffice

March 27, 2005 on 12:24 pm | In Computing |

I finally figured out how to enable spellchecking in German for NeoOffice/J. I installed NeoOffice/J 1.1 BETA with English as the default language and had no clue how it is possible to install other languages to run spellchecks as well. Here’s the trick: those languages are already contained in the NeoOffice/J installation, but for some reason only the spellcheck for the chosen installation language is enabled. To activate the other languages you simply have to uncomment them in the corresponding file:

sudo vim /Applications/NeoOfficeJ.app/Contents/share/dict/ooo/dictionary.lst

Be sure to quit the program with <Esc>wq! to save your changes.

(if you don”t understand these commands, I suggest you have a look at Learning the Mac OS X Terminal and A Beginner’s Guide To VIM)
