The conference is over and Debian is back
September 4, 2005 on 1:03 pm | In Computing, Privat |Well, time for updates again.
The big conference is over so I have more time again to work on my own projects I have to hand in for graduation. I quit my job at the university because one simply works too much for the money one earns, my boss admits it himself, and right now my own projects are more important than money. Working as a student at the university is great in terms of the location of one’s workplace and being at the center of the buzz. At the same time one is a highly qualified cheap labor force, so it’s about time to graduate and earn the money one’s worth.
I have my desktop computer back from the lab that I used for my experiments, so I finally have a Linux workstation again. This time I chose to give Debian a try again and I have to say I like it a lot, it has really improved with the release of Debian Sarge. I picked it over Gentoo as I am sick of fiddling with my system constantly. Debian is nice in terms of being automated enough so one doesn’t have to take care of every piece of configuration and the standard tasks mostly just work automatically (hooking up my iPod was remarkably easy), but one is still able to manually take influence where wanted. And yes, Debian is faster than SuSE.
