Solving Sudokus

February 20, 2006 on 8:41 pm | In Philosophy | Comments Off

Yes, it hit me, too. Although I don’t enjoy solving puzzle problems in general, I really do enjoy doing those Sudoku thingies. I got infected with the Sudoku virus during last November’s military service and by now I consider the daily Sudoku the only intelligent print in our local newspaper.

I am currently at a level where I can solve all easy and intermediate Sudokus, but I still have some problems doing the hard ones, so I was looking for Sudoku solving strategies on the web. KrazyDad happens to have a good overview. And Websudoku is a fine place to test your skills.

Enlightenment

Last night when I was getting ready for bed, it appeared to me that a pathologic outgrowth in preadolescent haptosomatic reflexes has a partial negative impact on progressive cranial convexity. Now all I need is to run a couple empirical tests and find a journal to publish the article.

Seahawks 10, Steelers Nothing

February 6, 2006 on 8:33 pm | In Miscellaneous | Comments Off

So it’s Monday after the big game, time for being an armchair quarterback again. To put it in few words: the Steelers sucked.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I am the living American Football almanac, but I still know a little more about American Football than the average European (”Why are the Steelers called Steelers - did they happen to have many thieves in their team?” Come on, get an education).

Last night’s game was disappointing. I started watching the game as a somewhat Steelers’ fan since I always enjoyed watching them play their game and since they always did a good performance in the last couple years although they never made the big one. When the game begun, I exspected the Steelers to wipe the Seahawks quickly and painfully from the field. However, I saw something else.

I saw the Seahawks gaining yards even while punting.
I saw the referee make two baffling calls by disapproving the Seahawks’ first touchdown and approving the Steelers’ instead.
I saw a Steelers’ quarterback showing a performance that wasn’t adequate for a Superbowl quarterback.

I can honestly say I never enjoyed the Seahawks play, they always were the underdog to give away the points to the bigger teams playing with the better tactics. However, last night the Seahawks got rewarded below their worth. Yes, I know, in the end it’s the score on the board that counts. In the Superbowl a single detail can decide about victory or defeat. However, be honest: we have seen Superbowls where the loosing team played better than the winning team last night. Does anybody have Superbowl XXXII still on tape?

EDIT: looks like I am not alone with my opinion.
